Diabetes And Fat
As a diabetic you know how important it is to watch what you are eating. We often tend to focus a lot on the carbs and sugars we consume, especially in the beginning, but the amount of fat and more importantly the types of fats we ingest are just as important.
As part of your new way of eating as a diabetic, you will be asked to reduce the amount of fat you consume on a daily basis. And since not all fats are created equal, your goal is also to decrease the amounts of bad fats and increase good fats like omega 3 fatty acids, omega 6 fatty acids (both of which are essential fats, meaning our body needs them to regulate hormones etc.), and monounsaturated fats which are found in olive oil, nuts and seeds.
In essence this means staying away from fatty meats, bacon, butter and whole fat milk products, opting for skim versions instead and then adding some healthy fats in the form of fish, olives, olive and canola oil, avocados, nuts and seeds instead.
